Boosting Immunity is the key

We’d all like for our children to be healthy. Boosting immunity helps children fight off illnesses. The main idea of Strengthening Your Child’s Resistance to Disease is to provide the body with optimum resources so that its amazing natural healing abilities can work.

Jane Sheppard has written a beginner friendly reference guide on how to strengthen our bodies natural disease fighting abilities. The information is presented in short chapters that any pressed for time parent will appreciate. While Sheppard sites many professional studies and references, she keeps the book easy to read and even friendly with occasional anecdotes from her own parenting experiences.

Healthy Kids Start in the Womb

The author argues for organic food during pregnancy, breastfeeding (early, on demand, and child-led weaning), and organic food for the child. Sheppard details the best food sources for different vitamins and minerals. She explains which foods you should always buy organic, and how to decrease exposure to environmental toxins. Another chapter includes information on good and bad fats and how sugar robs our body of important nutrients. The advantages of raw milk and butter are also explained. Sheppard also lists resources on how to find these organic foods without breaking the budget.

Vaccination?

The author doesn’t think so. She argues against vaccinations and unnecessary antibiotics, and explains when to consult a homeopath or chiropractor.

McDonalds Anyone?

As a parent, Sheppard understands that children don’t always eat what they should and that they face sugar temptation at school and at parties. She explains how to work around these influences. A few child friendly recipes for smoothies and juices are provided.

In other chapters, Sheppard addresses some ways to deal with and lessen allergies, the use of nutritional supplements, herbs with immunological properties, and when and how to use the beneficial bacteria of probiotics.

Back to the Basics

Not all the information is about nutrition. She also explains how to honor your children by listening to them, the benefits of fresh air, exercise, and good rest. She addresses how love and attention can have a positive impact on minds and bodies.

The book ends with a checklist of action items for building healthy immunity in children. Her suggestions for getting started are simple and practical.

The Best is Last!

An impressive eighteen pages of marvelous resources for further information and self study are provided.
