More reasons to live the Mediterranean diet

Live Holistically is a multi-author site.

I just ran across a very good blog promoting the Mediterranean diet. I, of course was interested. I own and run a Mediterranean restaurant, try to eat the Mediterranean diet 90% of the time and personally think it’s the healthiest diet in the world. The latest post refers to the study where children “liked” the exact same food better in a sack from McDonald’s versus the plain sack. At the restaurant we struggle with this daily, we don’t have a children’s menu, we think that children should eat something other than fried chicken fingers, fries and ranch dressing. We do offer smaller portions or sides and the children do seem to love the food once they’re given the opportunity to try hummus or grilled chicken or salads. Recently, many restaurants are rethinking their children’s menu, parents are finding their children only want to eat the food that’s available on children’s menus. High-fat, highly processed unhealthy foods. This is what we’re offering our children? When the obesity rate for children keeps rising? I agree with her blog. Poor children.

Great post Pat. I give K (our pre-schooler) what we eat, for the most part. If she doesn’t like it then she can have a snack, or fruit or yogurt or something else, but I rarely make a separate meal…. Occasionally I will if I want something really spicy, - even then i usually just rinse it out in a strainer and feed it to her. She’ll try anything. I hope school does’t give her more bad habits.
