I found out this morning that Anita Roddick, founder of the Body Shop passed away. In the early 80’s I was in London and went into one of her shops; at the time her vision for natural cosmetics and Community Trade were unique and radical. When I came home to the states I looked into buying a franchise, but at my young age no one took me seriously. I gave up on that dream but not on supporting her company. Now that many companies also use her principles for running their businesses we might forget her impact. But she was a pioneer in business with her stance on animal rights, human rights and environmental practices. Adrian Bellamy, chairman of The Body Shop International said in a statement that “…it is no exaggeration to say that she changed the world of business with her campaigns for social and environmental responsibility.”
