Autism, MMR and the Search for Truth

A Thoughtful Parent's Guide: How to Make Safe, Sensible Decisions about the Risks, Benefits, and Alternatives How right he is

It was not my intention to write another post on MMR and the dubious practice of preserving childhood vaccines with Thimerosal, a pseudonym for Mercury. ‘Factitious’, not his real name, writing at http://conspiracyfactory.blogspot.com was good enough to point out that MMR has never been tainted with Mercury, and he is right, it never has. It did, however, take me quite a while to find this out from an authority that I have any faith in, the parents of a severely affected child who can be contacted through their website: http://www.jabs.org.uk

An Acceptable Casualty
These are parents who have been told that their child is an acceptable casualty of the vaccination system, or an insignificant detail compared with the numbers saved from the diseases it prevents. 1,400 other parents finding themselves in the same situation sued the pharmaceutical companies, all of these cases have failed. They failed because of expert opinion. Opinions like the one ‘Factitious’ holds, and this is a direct quote which he has given me permission to print:

If there is no mercury in the vaccines that children get, and there is no

change in the number of children getting autism, then mercury is not causing

autism. Period. “

He expresses no humility for his opinion. Refusing to admit that there may just be something that science is unaware of yet, quoting several trials that vindicate his opinion.

The Japanese Corroborate Establishment Findings
Even I can find a problem with the Japanese study, and I don’t pretend to be a scientist. The Japanese eat raw fish as part of their diet, the sea is heavily polluted with mercury, and on top of this build-up of mercury, just a little more is added, enough to cause brain damage perhaps, therefore it is highly likely that their cases of Autism haven’t gone down with the withdrawal of Thimerosal.

Thimerosal Used in Childhood Vaccines until 2001
YES, mercury was used as a preservative in all childhood vaccines until: 2001 . (Production mayWhat Your Doctor May Not Tell You About Children's Vaccinations have ceased at this time but vials already containing Thimerosal were not recalled) and so build up would have continued. This enables the pharmaceutical companies, hand on heart, to deny any connection with MMR and Brain Damage.

The National Autism Association
The National Autism Association is currently funding the Burbacher/Charleston study into the effects of mercury exposure in the brain.

“The mercury study’s primary investigator is Dr. Thomas Burbacher, a University of Washington researcher. Burbacher’s earlier research found that exposure to Thimerosal, the ethylmercury-based vaccine preservative, resulted in inorganic mercury deposits in the brain that were twice the amount of those following exposure to equal amounts of methyl mercury, the type commonly found in fish.

Previous Research
Previous research has documented that inorganic mercury is associated with a neuro-inflammatory process, recently documented to also occur in the brains of children diagnosed with autism. Inorganic mercury has no discernible half-life and, once trapped in the brain, continues to damage brain cells.”

Wasting Precious Funds?
Would this body be wasting precious funds if it didn’t think that a connection with Mercury would be found?

How Much is Too Much?
So, how much mercury are we talking about here? Approximately 12 out of the 18 vaccine doses that the average American child receives before the age of 2 years still contain Thimerosal, (the pharmaceutical companies are working to phase it out.) Cumulatively that’s more than 200 micrograms of Mercury which would just about fit on the head of a pin.
U.S. Environmental Protection Agency
Quote: Dropping that pin head of Mercury into 23 gallons of water would make it unsafe for human consumption.

Scientific Research
Dr. Boyd Hayley, the chairman of the Chemistry Department at The University of Kentucky is also wasting precious research facilities . He is one of the nation’s leading experts on Mercury Poisoning and has studied Thimerosal in vaccines, he says:

“Thimerosal is one of the most toxic compounds I know of. I can’t think of anything that I know of that is more lethal.”

I think that I must also challenge the part of ‘Factitious’s’ statement when he says that:

“there is no change in the number of children getting autism.” Before 1990 1 in 10,000 children were diagnosed with Autism. But in the past decade, as the government has increased the number of mandatory vaccines, some recent studies suggest it has risen to 1 in 250. A recent study in the UK suggested the impossible number of 1 in 58 children had been diagnosed as falling within the Autistic Spectrum. There is an old saying: “There’s none so blind as those that won’t see.

Other Concerns
There are other concerns about the number of vaccinations that little bodies are forced to endure, (one parent claiming that her child had 22 before the age of 1 year.) This cannot be justified or useful and can only dampen down an immune system that is not yet fully developed.

My Experience in the 1970s
I speak from personal experience here. My daughter was given single vaccinations against measles (thankfully MMR hadn’t been thought of) but she went on to catch the measles virus. Possibly, the vaccine stopped any devastating side-effects, but this proves to my mind, that vaccines do not stop epidemics, they mitigate the severity of the symptoms. Scare stories of epidemics of measles breaking out, are just that, more bullying tactics perpetrated by the establishment.

The Search for Truth
My original argument, that parents are the only experts who are qualified to make such important choices as far as their children are concerned stands. When parents are offered intelligent choices they make intelligent decisions, and they deserve the whole truth and nothing but the truth, they are after all raising our future generations.

Two useful books, helpful in making those important decisions.

Two clarifications:

1) In my quote, I mean that mercury in vaccines doesn’t cause autism. Thimerosal in particular.

2) You say that I said there was never mercury in MMR. Not true. There used to mercury (ethyl mercury) in MMR. There was never methyl mercury in MMR. They’re quite different from each other (methyl mercury is *much* more toxic). Think of the difference between carbon monoxide (from car exhaust, will kill you quickly) and carbon dioxide (normal byproduct of human metabolism, not particularly toxic).

Cheers!

Nice article. I am studying embriology in Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy. I read a breif article from a woman Physist who was reasearching the effects of chemicals and the interaction with hormones during fetal development. What got her started was the rise of autism and the number of people who would develop diabetes, MS and other diseases at the same time in areas where there was a lot of industrialization. She felt there was a link as the percentage in the population of those site were higher and the age range was 5 to 8 years of those conditions becoming prevelent.
Just thought I would add this piece as another possiblity to the puzzle of why.

Hi factician,
Thank you for your clarifications.

Having said that, I wouldn’t like to be trapped underwater with only carbon-dioxide to breath, although I know that without CO2 autonomic breathing stops. So, perhaps it is a good analogy?

Hi Susan,
You are so right. There is never just ‘one’ cause for anything.

We need people like your Physicist to add her research to the other scientist’s who are willing to think outside the box, and perhaps we can then come to a much better understanding.

There needs to be another system( and I don’t know what that would be), other than peer revue. This has been demonstrated to hold new understanding back in the past, and I believe it continues to do that.

#5 factician on 08.24.07 at 6:39 pm

Perfect analogy. I wouldn’t want to be trapped underwater with nothing but MMR vaccine to breathe either.

Just cause it doesn’t substitute for oxygen, doesn’t mean it’s particularly toxic…

Hi factician,
“Think of the difference between carbon monoxide (from car exhaust, will kill you quickly) and carbon dioxide (normal byproduct of human metabolism, not particularly toxic).”

I’m struggling here, so I’ve had to quote you. What I read is the difference between a slow and quick death. I’ll grant you, if I have to go I’d rather go quickly..but then again I’d rather not go at all, yet:)

#7 factician on 08.27.07 at 4:08 pm

Of course you’d rather not breathe in carbon dioxide. But you do. Every day. Even though it’s toxic (in high doses), the normal atmosphere around you contains carbon dioxide, and yet you get through your day.

That’s what I’m trying to say with that analogy. Carbon monoxide would kill you quite quickly, but carbon dioxide is well tolerated by your body at low concentrations. Same thing with ethyl and methyl mercury. Methyl mercury will mess you up pretty badly at low concentrations. But you would need to get a 40 litre injection of vaccine to get enough ethyl mercury to harm you. 40 litres. That’s about 85 lbs of vaccine. I dare say that injecting that amount of saline would kill you, long before the mercury got you…

*Everything* is toxic. Everything. It’s all about the dose. Water is toxic. Oxygen is toxic (really!). Thimerosal is toxic. But not in the dose that it is commonly given.

You see, from your point of view you are right. And if people do want another point of view they have your link, but I can’t subscribe to it.

We know so very little about what is in our environment, and we are purposely kept in the dark by less than honest research. Research done by companies who need ‘proof’ that their product is safe, and scientists who need grants from pharmaceutical companies to keep their jobs, sifting the wheat from the chaff is very hard work.

Personally I advocate better to be safe than sorry tactics, because we are the ones who live with the consequences.

Homeopaths regard vaccinations as problematic-in-principle, but not for any chemical reasons: they base their opinion on clinical experience which suggests an association between vaccinations and autism and other immune-mediated chronic illnesses.

It may well be that it is not Thimerosal that is responsible for the toxicity of the MMR vaccine, but its biological composition or other, yet unknown, factors.

It is, therefore, wise for those objecting to vaccinations to do so on an empirical basis rather than by speculating about the causative factor involved, because the evidence for the toxicity of the vaccine is empirical in the first place.

It may well turn out that the MMR vaccine is toxic regardless of its mercury content (or, for the sake of keeping an open mind, non-toxic even when it contains mercury).

#11 Carol Webb on 11.11.07 at 8:06 pm

I realise that the Homoeopaths have their own reasons for avoiding vaccinations, and of course, it is a considered conscious decision, and needs to be honoured.

Others, who have the same right to avoid vaccination, also need to have their decision honoured.

It is my belief, that whatever influences a decision to avoid vaccination, it is a personal choice, and therefore relevant.

No-one else can, or should even try, to suggest that there is only one relevant reason in choosing, what could be, a devastating life decision.
