Introducing the Netti Pot

Have you heard of a Netti Pot? It looks like Aladin’s lamp. Usually it is ceramic with a spout that you can hold to your nose to flush the nasal passages.

So why would you want to do that? If you suffer from allergies, have frequent headaches, have stiff neck and shoulders; this little pot could make a very big difference.

Why Use It

  • It removes pollutants and mucous from the nasal and sinus passages.
  • It helps to prevent respiratory tract infections.
  • It relieves allergies, colds and sinusitis when used on a daily basis.
  • It is beneficial in the treatment of headaches and migraines.
  • It can lessen the sense of sluggishness or drowsiness.
  • It enlivens the sense organs.

Traditionally a saline solution is used. My daily recipe is 1/4 to 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt to 1/2 cup of warm water. Sea sat has no ingredients to keep the salt from caking. The less chemical exposure, the better.

If I am pretty congested, I will increase the salt to 1 teaspoon to 1/2 cup of warm water. The warm water relaxed the membranes and is soothing. The salt is cleansing and acts as an astringent by drying the mucous membranes.  Not ready to do your own mixing?  Click here.

If a tight neck and shoulders are something that you deal with on a regular basis; give this a try. The lymph system, which houses our immunity, can be taxed by toxins. There is no real infection, just this junk that comes with the air. Whether it is car pollution, flour from the bakery, fumes from welding, dust, or something else; those foreign particles get in our nose and into our lungs. Giving the nose a regular flush can help!

Thank you so much for this information. I’ve seen these and associated them only with drinks for invalids, now I know differently I shall get one.

You’re welcome, Carol. That made me laugh. Reminded me of being at my Granddad’s home when I first saw one.

You rubbed me the ‘right’ way! Stiff neck and shoulders are a daily thing on me. As soon as I write this comment and thank you for the ‘right’ tip…I’m going to inhale some sea salt and warm water!

Thanks Susan!

Hi Gail, thanks for writing in. I am sure you know that gravity will do the work for you. Just tilt your head down and hold the other nostril closed and the saline water will flow…unless you are really clogged. That is when snorting is appropriate.
