There goes that nagging voice in your head again and it’s saying: “you’re a elephant” or “look at you, you’re never gonna be any thinner”, or “pull yourself together and get thin!”
If this is your kind of self-talk, then you probably know by now that you are not alone. That doesn’t make it easier to live each day though, does it? You know that you’re never able to keep to one of these faddy diets, and not being able to get thin makes you feel like even more of a failure. Soon life won’t be worth living, you need to do something and make it stick.
I don’t promise that by following my tips you will get thin. You will only get thin by starving yourself, and you know, and I know, that all the weight that you lose by doing that will come back quicker than it went, with some more added.
I promise that if you follow the tips that I’m giving you now, then you will weigh less. I guarantee it!
- Remove your bathroom scales. Give them away or sell them on ebay, but get them out of your house. Today!
- Practice rhythmic breathing.
- Drink more water than you ever thought you could.
- Eat sustaining foods.
- Give up Aspartame.
- Develop an iron will.
- Love yourself the way that you are.
Number 1: You don’t need scales to tell you whether you have gained or lost the odd pound. Your clothes will tell you exactly where you stand. What is important are the changes that happen over time. It is possible to lose 2lbs. while you sleep, but this will be water, if you put on 5lbs. and it stays there your clothes will feel tighter and you will see some rolls of fat that needn’t be there.
Scales keep you focused on what you don’t want, unfortunately this creates the opposite effect, you gain weight.
Lose the scales, lose the weight.
Number 2: Breathing is something that probably doesn’t grab our attention, it just happens doesn’t it? Well no, it’s not as easy as that.
If you are a shallow breather, oxygen only gets to about half your lungs. It’s like a car having a faulty carburettor, the engine which is your body, will sputter and bang, because it just isn’t getting enough oxygen.
Oxygen oxidises, it burns things up, and the food that you eat needs to be burned or it will be stored. This is not a great state of affairs, because you know where it will be stored, around the hips, thighs or waist.
Cayenne Pepper works well with Oxygen, keep some as a condiment or make your own liquid extract and add to herbal teas. This is a stimulating brew, and you will soon find that you don’t want milky drinks with added sugar.
Number 3: The probability is that you are dehydrated. Unless you drink 8 large glasses of fresh water every day you have lost your sense of thirst and are slowly drying out. It is now going to take some time before you can hydrate your body, and until you do you will not lose weight successfully.
Learn about water, what is does for you and what goes on within your body when you don’t get enough. There are many sources of official information, but my website has a page which will explain what you need to do and why, visit: http://wisehealer.co.uk
A quick tip is to drink your water cold, unless the weather doesn’t allow this. Cold water burns more calories as the body has to burn calories to heat it to blood temperature before it can be used for hydration.
If the thought of drinking so much water sends shivers down your spine, then use the EFT Tapping tool. (See my article on Emotional Freedom Techniques on the articles page of this site.)
Use the set up: “Even though I hate the thought of drinking this water, I love and accept myself” x3 and keep doing rounds of tapping until you no longer have resistance.
Number 4: Eat foods that will sustain you for longer. If you eat refined cereals for breakfast then by 11a.m. you will feel very hungry and will be tempted to go for a quick sugar hit. This is when the chocolate bars and crisps are consumed, and so are calories that you don’t need. Look at my post on ‘How to Tap Away Your Cravings’, but do it before you buy the junk food, not just as you are going to put it into your mouth. If you do this you will feel deprived, especially if the whole office is consuming junk.
Number 5: Give up soda, you may have to do this slowly because you may have an addiction to its other contents, but diet soda makes you put on weight.
This is a complicated explanation to do with how our body utilizes sugars, but in a nutshell. You are promising your body sugar because Aspartame is sweet to taste, you drink the drink and your body receives no sugar. It doesn’t know what to do and goes into panic mode, demanding that you consume some sugar, and it won’t leave you alone until you do. When you give in and eat a chocolate bar it breathes a sigh of relief. You, however, have consumed many calories that you wouldn’t have if you hadn’t promised your body and failed to deliver.
The diet industry is well aware of this situation, but it has a vested interest in you remaining overweight.
Again if you find it hard to give up soda use the tapping tool with a set up that is something like: “Even though I crave ………. Cola, I love and accept myself anyway” x3.
Number 6: Developing an iron will sounds simple, and it is, but it isn’t easy.
Picture this: You are at your cousin’s wedding, your parent’s house for Christmas, the office party that happens to be a buffet this year, and you are hungry! Other people are piling their plate high (There never are people who want to lose weight at these occasions) and you want to follow suit. You will, unless you have done the work beforehand, and can honestly eat enough to satisfy your hunger, but happily refuse the kind offers to fill your plate again. Or smile sweetly at your mother who decides to play the: “Look at you, you’re fading away” card, and suddenly decide that you need to refresh your make-up.
You need to have used EFT Tapping, Affirmation and Visualization during the weeks before the party and you will have developed the self-confidence to leave that party with your head held high, because you are quite rightly proud of your achievement.
Number 7: This is my favourite tip. Enjoy everything that you eat.
If you are unhappy with the shape of your body and what you put into it, then you do not love yourself. You can’t look into your own eyes in your mirror and Affirm: “..name…. I love you, I really love you,” because any love that you feel for yourself is conditional, and the condition is that you are the perfect weight and you eat all the right foods.
Where did you get the idea of the perfect weight from? By whose standards are you working? When you have got to the point where you can look in the mirror and love exactly who and what you are, then and only then will you lose weight and keep the weight off.
You can do this alone, but sometimes it is quicker with an Emotional Freedom Practitioner because you will be working with old memories that may be painful. You will find more guidance on my website and I can answer questions here.
If you think that these ideas are stupid, and no-one could believe that this is the way to lose weight, then use the tapping set-up : “Even though I don’t believe any of this rubbish, I love and accept myself anyway.”
For more help with your Tapping Technique you will find this book helpful.

Cayenne pepper will take care of my Cappuccino addiction? Really? What a great tip!
thanks! Great information, I agree the scale should be the first thing to do. Spoken as a real scale addict.
Hasn’t anyone heard of the middle age spread?
Hi Heather,
The spread is a particularly nasty trick of middle age, and without lots of hard gym work, it’s not possible to have the body you once had.
These are simple tips to help you manage your weight, so that you don’t get too fat. If you don’t get too fat you’ll feel better about yourself, which will help to keep the weight off.
Yoga and pilates help a lot with the middle-age spread, even a few times a week helps.
I know that you’re absolutely right in what you say, and I often think I’ll do something someday, but don’t. It’s possibly basic laziness!
Having said that I’ve done lots of EFT work with a Yoga teacher. She had to shift the emotional blocks before the weight would go.
